IN THE NEWS: Bradford’s own Zippo Manufacturing Co. and W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Co. were featured in a full-length article in the March/April 2017 issue of “Pennsylvania Magazine.”
The article opens with a photo of an American flag composed entirely of Zippo lighters that is on display at the Zippo/Case Museum. One of the cool things about the photo is two youths are looking up in awe at the work, which has thousands of the iconic lighters showcased.
The article features a little of the companies’ histories, and it talks about the fans who collect the knives and lighters made here in Bradford.
TIME CHANGE: Just to give our readers a heads up, you’ll want to set your clocks forward one hour this weekend.
Daylight Savings Time technically begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. We’re probably going to change ours before bed on Saturday so we don’t wake up confused Sunday morning. Ah, the joys of aging.
The Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner has good advice on a couple other annual/semi-annual chores to do this weekend. There are some things we might never remember to do if we didn’t have these little reminders.
“You should get into the habit of changing your clocks and batteries, and practicing your home fire escape plan with your family all in the same weekend,” said State Fire Commissioner Tim Solobay. “These simple things are among the best steps you can take to keep your loved ones safe if there’s a fire in your home.”
According to a press release from his office, “working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half, and worn or missing batteries are the most common cause of a smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector malfunction.”
That’s right, don’t forget to check your carbon monoxide detector this weekend, too.
Solobay recommends testing smoke alarms monthly.
