KANE — A Port Allegany man was arrested following a police chase early Sunday morning in Annin Township and Eldred Borough.
Kane-based state police said they tried to pull over Richard J. Babcock, 44, for a traffic violation around 1:09 a.m. Sunday. “Once the lights and sirens were activated, (Babcock) fled in a 2002 Gold Chevrolet Malibu on Chaplin Hill Road,” police stated.
While fleeing from police, Babcock committed several other traffic violations and traveled at speeds of more than 100 mph, according to police.
With help from Otto-Eldred Police, state police were able to stop the vehicle safely in Eldred Borough.
Court records said Babcock faces charges including fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, driving while blood alcohol content is .02 or greater while license is suspended, driving under the influence of alcohol and habitual offenders.
He is further charged with summary violations including obstructed window, failure to carry registration, failure to carry license, failure to notify of a change in address, operating a vehicle without required financial responsibility, failure to keep right, disregarding traffic lane, duties at a stop sign, turning movements and required signals, driving at a safe speed, maximum speed limits, careless driving, reckless driving, restrictions on alcoholic beverages, failure to use safety belt and operating a vehicle without valid inspection, court records indicate.
Babcock is committed to McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $25,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on March 9.
