MAPLE MONTH: Maple producers along U.S. Route 6 in Pennsylvania are gearing up for the busy season this month.
According to the PA Route 6 Alliance, there will be opportunities to tour many maple-producing facilities this March. Most of the events will be the weekend of March 18-19.
“Maple producers are a key part of the history and heritage along PA Route 6,” PA Route 6 representatives stated. “These skilled craftsmen have passed along traditional production methods and developed an extensive product line that proves that maple syrup is just not for breakfast anymore.” Declaring that Pennsylvania has the best maple syrup and products in the country, the PA Route 6 Alliance is recognizing March as Maple Month across Route 6.
We guess you won’t know who has the best syrup unless you try them.
Residents will be able to see syrup right in Potter County and nearby Tioga County during the 13th annual Maple Weekend later this month. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both March 18 and 19, and 15 sugar shacks will be open to visitors during that time.
A list and map of all the participating places is available on the Potter-Tioga Maple Producers Association website, www.pamaple.com.
If you’re interested in doing a little more traveling this month, will also be the date of the 14th annual Taste & Tour Weekend in Crawford, Erie and Warren counties. More about the Northwest Pennsylvania Maple Association’s event can be found at www.pamaple.org/tour.
In Wayne, Pike and Lackawanna counties, the Northeast Maple Weekend will include the eighth annual Self-Guided Maple Tour.
The only festival of the group not slated for March is the 36th annual Endless Mountains Maple Festival, which will be held April 29-30. The event includes maple producers in Bradford, Sullivan, Wyoming and Susquehanna counties.
