The United States is a Democratic Republic, and President Trump is our duly-elected president. He was elected with 306 of the required 270 Electoral College votes. Importantly, he won 30 of the 50 states and at least 2,500 of the 3,000 counties in the nation. Hillary did win the popular vote in the U.S. and California but President Trump even won half of the counties of California. In other words, he won decisively and in exactly the way the Founders had in mind.
He has been in office a mere five weeks, and he has made huge progress on addressing the problems he promised the voters he would do something about. He authorized construction on the Wall, announced hiring 10,000 new ICE and 5,000 border security agents, promulgated a program to vet refugees and immigrants from the seven countries in the Mideast countries Obama labeled unsafe, eliminated numerous regulations that impede job creation, authorized the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines and unshackled the restrictions on coal mining, withdrew America from the TPP treaty, appointed Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, established a timetable for reducing taxes and replacing Obamacare, both of which will have a major impact on creating jobs, and said out loud: “Radical Islamic terrorism”
In addition, he has convened meetings with just about every major group of leaders of business, labor and experts in the country to seek their input. Adding to this he has met or spoken on the phone with many of the top world leaders. The business community is already responding, and consumer confidence is rising.
Despite this amazing electoral accomplishment and despite keeping his campaign promises right out of the starting gate, a number of Democrats in Congress and many in the streets claim he is illegitimate and calling him the worst kind of names. However, they are not just disparaging President Trump; they are disparaging their working class fellow Americans who voted him into office. Worse, they show disrespect for the office of president and the Founders who wisely set up the Electoral College.
