Two University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students are in McKean County Jail for allegedly having marijuana packaged for sale in their vehicle during a traffic stop Thursday night.
Devon Noel Cruz, 19, of Philadelphia but living on the campus of Pitt-Bradford, and Miroslava Vazquez, of Levittown, but residing on campus, were both charged following a stop at 9:23 p.m. Thursday on Campus Drive in the City of Bradford.
According to court records, a Bradford City police officer was conducting speed enforcement when he stopped a vehicle driven by Cruz in which Vazquez was a passenger. The vehicle had been traveling 50 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. The officer indicated he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Cruz gave the officer permission to search the vehicle. Police found individually packaged bags of marijuana, and a pencil box containing a bag of marijuana, a grinder, a blunt and other paraphernalia. Police said when they questioned the two, each one told police the items belonged to them and not to the other person in the vehicle, court records read.
Both were charged with possession with the intent to deliver and conspiracy, felonies; possession, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors. Cruz was also charged with speeding and driving under the influence.
Both were arraigned before on-call District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to jail in lieu of $25,000 each. Both are scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
