RIDGWAY — A Ridgway teen has been placed in the Elk County jail after allegedly attacking her mother with a knife in the presence of her toddlers.
According the criminal complaint, police were called to the home of Katelyn Marie Walters, 18, 141 Sherman Ave., Ridgway, for fight at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday.
Police were told by Elk County Emergency Services that Walters had a knife, but it had been taken from her. Police were met outside the home by Walters’ victim and mother Jennifer Shaw who was crying and pointing to a gun-shaped knife that was about six inches long. Shaw said Walters had attacked her with the knife and was still inside the home, the complaint said. Shaw told police Walters became enraged, went upstairs to get the knife and then went after Shaw, the complaint says.
Walters told police her sister and her mother made her angry. Walters told police she punched and kicked her mother and her 1-year-old son, knocking him to the ground. Walters said she then ran to her mother’s bedroom on the second floor and got her mother’s knife, the complaint alleged. Walters told police she planned on killing her mother and “shanking” her sister. She then ran back to the first floor and attempted to go after her mother with the knife while threatening to kill her. Walters said another person jumped between her and her mother and took the knife from her, according to the complaint. During the attack Walters 1-year-old and 2-year-old sons were present, she told police.
Walters is charged with aggravated assault, assault, making terroristic threats with the intent to terrorize another, endangering the welfare of children, possession of an instrument of a crime and harassment.
She was arraigned by District Judge James Martin in Johnsonburg, and sent to Elk County Jail and bail was set at $250,000. A preliminary hearing is set for March 1.
