Terry D. Lopus is seeking the Republican nomination for Bradford City Council during the May primary election.
Lopus is a 1970 graduate of Bradford Area High School as well as graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree.
Lopus is licensed by the state of Pennsylvania as a nursing home administrator. Most recently he was employed by Complete Healthcare Resources serving as an interim administrator at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg. Prior experience as an administrator includes The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center, the Cedarbrook County facilities in Allentown, the Bradford Ecumenical Home and Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport.
Lopus has prior public service, having served on Bradford City Council from 1982 to 1986. He served two years under the council manager form of government and following a referendum, two years under the commission form of government.
He served on the Bradford Area School Board from 1989 to 1994, serving as treasurer for several years.
Presently, Lopus serves as a member of the boards of the Salvation Army, Evergreen Elm and Bradford City Water Authority. He is a long-time Rotary Club member, having been awarded a Paul Harris Fellow.
Previous community involvement includes serving on the board of the Bradford Area Public Library, the former McKean County Visiting Nurse Association, the Bradford Housing Authority and the Friendship Table.
“I would welcome the opportunity to become a member of Bradford City Council, serving the city of Bradford and joining what I observe as a strong and progressive team of city leaders, offices and departments,” Lopus said.
He listed his goals for a term in council as well.
Lopus said, “My objectives include maintaining the progress and focus of removing blight in the community while ensuring adequate availability of residential housing for the community; continuing the efforts of the recently created property maintenance department; continuing the excellent cooperative efforts and work of economic development, downtown programs, the city and the authorities in investing in replacement and improvement of all city infrastructures; and working with city council and city administration in maintaining and ensuring a sound financial outlook and future via an optimum city budget while maintaining expenses and enhancing revenues wherever possible.”
