SMETHPORT – It was a near-perfect start to the District 9 Class A playoffs for Smethport as the Lady Hubbers cruised to a 61-30 first-round victory over Brockway (9-14) Tuesday.
Abbey Woodard was the star for Smethport (11-12) as the junior notched a game-high 29 points in the winning effort.
“Abbey’s been playing good ball of late,” Smethport coach Eric Lutz said. “It was nice to see some other players contributing tonight.”
Among those other contributors was Emily Treat, who added 10 points.
The Lady Hubbers’ defense was stout all game, especially in the first and fourth quarters, when they held Brockway to four points in each period.
“When we buckle down, we can play pretty good defense,” Lutz said.
Kaitly Morelli (14 points) and Leah Lindemuth (10) were the high scorers for the Lady Rovers.
Smethport’s opponent in the quarterfinals will be North Clarion as the two schools will face each other at Kane High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
