PITTSBURGH – Duquesne set the tone early and pulled away down the stretch for an 83-61 victory Tuesday night in the regular season finale at the Palumbo Center.

It was another strong performance for Bonnies sophomoreMckenna Maycock who posted a career night with personal bests of 15 points and six assists. JuniorMariah Ruff also netted 15 points on the strength of five three-pointers, matching her season high.

FreshmanJalisha Terry gave St. Bonaventure a third player in double figures, notching 10 points.

Duquesne opened the game on an 8-0 run, and led 8-5 at the first media timeout of the night. From there the Dukes used a 9-1 blitz to lead, 17-6, following the end of the opening 10 minutes.

St. Bona found a spark offensively from the combination of Maycock and Ruff to cut within 20-13 following a 7-0 run of its own.

Duquesne stretched its lead to 15 during the second quarter, however. The Bonnies found momentum heading for the break when Maycock dished out of traffic to a wide openSarah Hart on the wing who drained a three at the buzzer for a 34-23 score.

Each time the Bonnies attempted to rally, however, Duquesne would answer with a run of its own, opening up its lead during the third.

The Bonnies cut within 69-54 at the game’s final media timeout with five minutes to play, but could get no closer.

Chassidy Omogrosso totaled 19 points to lead all scorers while Amadea Szamosi barely missed a triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists.

St. Bonaventure must now play the waiting game before finding out where it will play in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The winner of Wednesday’s Fordham at La Salle game will determine where the Bonnies will travel – should Fordham win, the Bonnies will play at La Salle on Saturday afternoon. A La Salle win would send the Bonnies to Fordham on Sunday.
