ALLEGANY, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure University’s Concert Choir and Concert Band will present a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on campus.
The public is invited to attend.
The Concert Choir, under the direction of artist-in-residence Kathryn A. Black, will feature pieces by Stephen Sondheim, including some of his contributions to the musicals “Sunday in The Park with George,” “Into the Woods” and “Follies.” A number of student soloists will be featured in Sondheim’s “A Weekend in the Country” from the musical “A Little Light Music.”
The Concert Band’s selections will likewise be upbeat and melodic, said Dr. Leslie M. Sabina, who directs the band and is chair of the Department Visual and Performing Arts at the university.
The featured pieces will include compositions by Robert Sheldon, selections based on Robert Burns’ poetry, and an arrangement of Pixar movie favorites.
“The students in the band also wanted to present something a little lighter. That’s why we’ll be presenting an arrangement of tunes from Pixar movies,” said Sabina.
