The U.S. Forest Service offices in the Allegheny National Forest all closed today due to an “unsubstantiated phone threat,” said Jason Kirchner, public affairs specialist with the U.S. Forest Service.
“All of our employees are safe,” he said.
Kirchner explained that law enforcement were notified after the phone call, and the incident is currently under investigation. He had no further details about the call that he could share. “We want to allow law enforcement to do their job.”
He said the investigation is being conducted by local law enforcement and the FBI.
All three offices — the supervisor’s office and the ranger district offices in Bradford and Marienville — closed about 9 a.m., according to Ruth Sutton, the public affairs officer for the Allegany National Forest.
As to whether the incident has impacted any other activities in the forest, such as recreation, Kirchner explained, “The only impact is on our offices themselves,” while the actual forest land is unaffected.
