EDINBORO — The Bradford High girls’ indoor track and field team turned in an impressive day at the Tri-State Championships Saturday.
Regan Johnson set an indoor school record in the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.09 seconds, finishing sixth and earning a medal.
The 4×200 relay team of Johnson, Brooke McGriff, Logan Sunafrank and Ashton McGriff was second in a school record time of 1:50.03. The previous record was 1:52.55 set in 2007 by Chloe Nickel, Ellie Hawkins, Lindsay Sherman and Alexa Wilton.
Abby Coffman had a personal best in the shot put (31’1’’, 15th place). Mikayla Bond was 18th in the high jump (4’7’’). Johnson placed 11th in the 200 (27.63). Brooke McGriff medaled in the 60 hurdles (9.65, 7th place). In the 400, Ashton McGriff medaled, taking third (59.19).
The Lady Owls scored 19 team points.
“It was an outstanding day for the girls’ team,” BAHS coach Larry Stillman said. “All six of our athletes hit or were close to personal bests. We broke two school records and broke three records for the season.
“Our 4 x 200 relay had a great race and missed winning by .04. It was very nice that Lindsay Sherman, who was on that relay, was at the meet to cheer them on. All four girls – Regan, Brooke, Logan and Ashton – had their best races of the year.
“Regan broke the record in the 60 dash and both her and Brooke just missed qualifying for the state meet in their events. Mikayla jumped well and Abby capped off her excellent indoor season with another personal best.
“The girls worked hard all winter and the help of coaches Tessena, Kelley, Cercone and Marasco was much appreciated.”
Ashton McGriff will compete in the state meet next Saturday at Penn State.
