BROCKWAY – After tearing through undefeated regular seasons, Elk Catholic and Coudersport headline the preliminary boys District 9 playoff brackets, released Friday morning by the district committee.
The Crusaders and Falcons are top seeds in Class A and Class AA, respectively. Though the brackets for Class A, AA and AAA are completed, exact times, dates and locations have not yet been finalized for most games.
Class AAAA, with some teams still playing Friday night, has not yet been finalized and no preliminary bracket was released.
Of the seven teams in the Crusaders’ bracket, four are from the North Tier League. Elk Catholic awaits the winner of No. 4 North Clarion (13-9) and No. 5 Port Allegany (12-10). In the bottom-half of the bracket, second-seeded Cameron County (15-7) takes on Johnsonburg (10-12), while No. 3 Otto-Eldred and No. 6 Oswayo Valley battle it out.
In Class AA, Coudersport awaits the winner of Wednesday’s No. 4 Clarion-Limestone (17-5) and No. 5 Clarion (16-6), while second-seeded Ridgway (19-3) gets the winner of No. 3 Keystone (18-4) and No. 6 Brockway (14-8).
The semifinal matchups in Class A and AA are set for the week of Feb. 27, with the championship games likely being staged at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium on March 3 or 4. Four semifinalists qualify for the PIAA playoffs in Class A, while three make it in Class AA.
In Class AAA, a pair of semifinal matchups are set for a Thursday doubleheader at Tippin Gymnasium with No. 1 Kane (16-6) taking on No. 4 Brookville (10-11 through Thursday) in the nightcap. No. 2 Karns City (15-7) and No. 3 Moniteau (14-8) square off in the 6 p.m. early game.
