The Wesmiller and Mangold families were the top challengers in the Family Fun Chess Tournament held Sunday afternoon in the St. Bernard Elementary and Middle School cafeteria.
The Wesmiller family won the most games in the tournament to claim the first overall team trophy. Family participants for the Wesmillers included father Brian and son Breyen. The Mangold family took second place, and was represented by father Matt and children Alex, Andy and Alyssa.
The top two scorers on each family team were counted to determine the champions.
Individual winners included Jason Oliphant, who won all of his games, finished as top adult player and won a gift certificate for Beefeater’s. The second place adult honor was earned by Brian Wesmiller, and the third place award went to Matt Mangold.
Kara Longo, a seventh grade student at St. Bernard school, finished as top student player, and Kaden Silvis captured second place after his playoff with Kara. The top fourth grade and under trophy was won by third grader Cooper Haight, who lost only one game. Other third grade and under awards went to Breyen Wesmiller, Alyssa Mangold, Claire and Sean Storer.
The tournament was organized and directed by Ron Buchheit. Bridget Mangold and Melissa Longo assisted.
Sponsors donating tournament prizes included Beefeater’s Restaurant, Bradford Main Street Movie House, A Slice of the ’80s, and Rookies Sports Bar.
