ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Residents are invited to come and get creative at the professional art studio of the Cattaraugus County Arts Council.
The council is offering art classes during the month of March at its 100 W. Main St. studio in Allegany. Here is what is in store during the month of March for those age 14 and older.
For those age 14 and older, the council has a creative clay class for people of any experience level that will take place March 6. The class is ongoing, meeting the first Monday of every month. For March the project will be a carved Pennsylvania Dutch hex sign plaque. Each three-hour evening class is $30.
For anyone who wants to learn how to work in clay on a wheel, the beginner wheel throwing class taught by Pamela Delyannis is a great place to start. From 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoons beginning March 1-22, this four-week class will have beginning students learning the steps to raise a lump of clay into a pot. The class will include demonstrations as well as individual instruction throughout the class. The final class will be for finishing up work and glazing. All supplies, tools and 25 pounds of clay are included in the price: $110 for council members or $120 for non-members. Anyone with more experience in wheel throwing might like to take the teapots master class that Delyannis is teaching on the same dates in the evening. The information about that class is on the CCAC website, myartscouncil.net.
Carolyn Raine will teach a mosaic frame class on Thursday evenings on March 9, 16 and 23. Participants will learn the basic techniques to make a keepsake frame using many different materials. Stained glass, colored glass gems and beads are available, and people may bring any objects they want to use in their “bits and pieces” mosaic frame. The class will teach participants about surface preparation, which adhesive to use, placement of tesserae and the grouting process. All supplies are included with the class fee: $40 for council members or $50 for non-members.
