The Bradford Township Supervisors on Monday approved advertising for this year’s road projects with the hopes of making some much-needed improvements to West Corydon Street.
Supervisor chairman Jim Erwin said the plan is to do experimental paving involving fabric along that street to where township officials previously stopped a road project at Clarks Lane.
“So, I am hoping we can get that in and get that done this summer,” said Erwin. “We’ll try to do a little bit on that, and we’ll try to get that road taken care of because it is awful in the wintertime.”
In a related matter, the supervisors also approved advertising for road materials for the 2017-18 season.
Also at the meeting, Erwin said the township will start the enforcement of address signs, which he said would probably start toward the end of the month.
The sign must be at least 18 inches in height and 6 inches in width with a green background. The numbers must be at least 4 inches high by at least 1.5 inches wide, and must be in white reflective standard Arabic.
Not following the ordinance could cost people at least $150 and no more than $1,000, along with court costs. Each day after the 30-day non-compliance grace period is counted as a separate offense, according to the ordinance.
Supervisor Steve Mascho said people who have put their own signs up should contact the township, so that information is on file.
The meeting also included the approval of increasing pay rates for part-time police officers.
Officials said the starting pay rate will be $16 an hour, effective on the officer’s hiring date, $18 an hour after six months after the officer’s hiring date and $20 an hour one year after the officer’s hiring date. The pay levels had been $12, $13 and $14 an hour, respectively.
Also at the meeting, the supervisors approved:
• Approved relieving tax collector Beth Monti from uncollected and exonerated 2016 per capita taxes totaling $1,840 and to turn over the uncollected taxes in the amount of $1,270 to Berkheimer for collection, minus any taxes paid to the township; and
• Named Michael Salerno as an alternate to the Bradford Township Zoning Hearing Board for a four-year term. His term will expire Dec. 31, 2020.
In the police department report, Supervisor Gayle Bauer said the department dealt with 167 calls for service, investigated 12 motor vehicle accidents and conducted 36 hours of traffic enforcement.
The next supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 13 at the township building.
