EMPORIUM — A number of activities planned for the Cameron County Snowfest scheduled for this Saturday at the Emporium Country Club have been canceled due to warmer-than-average temperatures.
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Johns-Solak blamed “the deluge of rain washing away the snow to just a thin layer” as the reason.
“It’s not possible to have sleds using the golf course when only a thin layer of snow protects the fairways,” said Johns-Solak. “This is the second year in a row the Chamber and Emporium Country Club have canceled the events due to a lack of snow.”
Indoor events scheduled over the weekend will go on as planned at My Place in Emporium.
On Friday evening, a beer and pretzel gala will be held, with craft brew samples from Straub Brewery and other vendors. Meanwhile, a disc jockey and drink specials are on for Saturday night. On Sunday, a chili cook-off will be held. Seven competitors are signed up for the event, and taste-testers can cast ballots Sunday afternoon for a cost of $5.
