GIBRALTAR — One of Bradford’s strongest chess players competed in the just-finished Gibraltar Chess Festival 2017-Challenger B.
Greg Henry entered the international event ranked #45, but he managed to lose only one game and knock off a few FIDE (international chess federation) masters along the way. Henry topped his rating level and earned a FIDE rating of 2279. His prize was a modest 250 Euros.
In the top section, Hikaru Nakamura, four-time United States chess champion, won the 2017 Tradewise Gibraltar Masters. This is also Nakamura’s fourth time to win in Gibraltar. Hikaru Nakamura has another connection with Bradford because his father taught at the Castle Chess Camp here for a number of years.
