PORT ALLEGANY — Autumn Buchsenschutz surpassed the 1,000-point mark as Port Allegany rolled to a 51-31 win over Cameron County in a North Tier League girls’ basketball game Tuesday.
Buchsenschutz needed four points going into the game to reach the milestone. She finished with 21 points as the Lady Gators improved to 9-9 overall.
“It’s a heck of an accomplishment,” Port coach Jason Luther said. “She is one of seven girls in the history of Port Allegany to reach that milestone. There were a lot of people along the way who helped her. I’m very happy for her.”
Cailey Bennett added 21 tallies for the winners.
“Cailey and Autumn did a good job on Madison Harrier and Madi Guisto,” Luther added. “Both were averaging 15 points per game.
“As a unit, this was easily the best we’ve defended the entire season. We were sound defensively.”
The win gave the Lady Gators a sweep of the season series with the Lady Red Raiders.
Hannah Lathrop pulled down 12 boards for the victors. Barnett had six rebounds and Buchsenschutz six steals and five assists.
Harrier led CCHS with eight points.

SMETHPORT —Abbey Woodard scored 31 points, but it was a strong defensive effort by Smethport that led the Lady Hubbers to victory over Galeton.
Galeton (13-6, 8-5 NTL) defeated the Lady Hubbers twice earlier in the season, but Smethport (10-9, 6-8 NTL) outscored the visitors 28-8 in the middle two quarters and took a convincing 55-18 lead going into the fourth quarter.
“They had beaten us two previous times this season,” Smethport head coach Eric Lutz said. “Both times we had one bad quarter. Tonight, we didn’t have a bad quarter. I thought our defense was tremendous.”
Woodard made half the Lady Hubbers’ 26 total field goals, including one 3-pointer. However, Lutz was more impressed with his team’s overall defensive effort.
“She played well offensively,” Lutz said. “The key to our victory was our defense. The girls did their assignments like they were supposed. To hold this team to 27 points was an outstanding effort.”
Smethport head to league-leading Coudersport on Friday, while Galeton travels to Port Allegany.
