EMPORIUM — Indoor events planned in conjunction with this weekend’s Snowfest will continue regardless of weather, but some outdoor activities may have to be canceled.
Organizers are currently anticipating the event will go on as planned, but forecasts indicate record-setting warm temperatures are on the way for later this week.
“We were looking really good until the weather forecast showed that they’re calling for two 50 degree days later this week. It’s not looking to be very favorable now,” said Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Johns-Solak. “If there isn’t enough snow, we just can’t do it.”
Johns-Solak’s comments were issued Monday, when temperatures were expected to be in the high 30s, but reached nearly 50 degrees in Emporium.
Saturday’s events are at risk of cancelation They include a cardboard sled race, snowman-building and other snowy weather-themed outdoor activities planned at the Emporium Country Club.
However, events planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at My Place in Emporium will continue despite the weather conditions.
On Friday evening, My Place will hold a beer and pretzel gala featuring craft beer samples from Coors Distributor and Straub Brewery. Proceeds from pretzel purchases will be donated to the Emporium Moose Lodge’s Kids Christmas event. Large groups are asked to please make reservations.
On Saturday night, My Place will host a disc jockey and have drink specials.
Meanwhile, a Chili Cook-Off is being held on Sunday. The public is welcome to come vote on their favorite dish for a cost of $5.
Johns-Solak stated that a final decision on whether there is enough snow to hold Saturday’s family-friendly activities at the country club will come later this week. As it stands, activities are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. A bonfire will be available for warming-up, and the club’s restrooms will be open.
Information on Saturday’s activity schedule will be made available on the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce and Artisan Center website, on social media sites and on local radio stations.
