BROCKWAY –– Adam Higbie’s free throw with six seconds left lifted Bradford High to its third consecutive win, a 43-42 non-league victory over Brockway on Friday night.
The Owls entered the final minute of play up five, but some late heroics by Brockway’s Jarrett Esposito with 23 seconds left tied the game at 41.
After BHS head coach Brian Hobbs called for timeout, Higbie (11 points) drove the lane, forced a foul and made his shots to put the Owls ahead two, 43-41.
“We’ve been doing a lot of game situations in practice,” Hobbs said. “We’ve been in a lot of close games that first round of league play. It was kind of a broken play, but Nate did a good job and attacked the basket to get himself to the line.”
Brockway then tried to go the length of the court to tie or win the game, but Tyler Gigliotti (11 points) stopped a scoring attempt by committing a foul
”A very smart basketball play,” Hobbs said of his freshman guard.
The Rover player made the first, but missed the tying attempt and Bradford came away with the rebound to secure the win.
The Owls now sport a 6-11 record and travel to DuBois on Tuesday for a D9 League clash.
“I think we’ve got some confidence,” Hobbs said. “Everyone is finding their spots and we’re gelling together. I’m proud of the way our guys battled tonight.”
Adam Boyer added seven points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Danny Manion had eight points and six rebounds.
