SMETHPORT — Strangling charges against an East Smethport man were bound to McKean County Court on Monday before Magisterial District Judge William Todd.
Mark Anthony Carlson, 44, of 20 Water St., was initially charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and harassment, a summary charge; however, a second-degree felony charge of strangulation-applying pressure to throat or neck has since been added, according to court records.
Court records indicate that on Jan. 14, Carlson put his knee on his wife’s chest and choked her. She went to Bradford Regional Medical Center for medical treatment, and a doctor observed hand marks on her neck and other medical signs of strangulation.
Carlson remains in McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $20,000 bail.
