A Port Allegany man is accused of causing a drunken scene at a laundromat, then threatening police who were called to assist.
Gary Lee Tarbox Jr., 34, of 27 Evans Drive, Port Allegany, was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Richard Luther on two counts of terroristic threats, both first-degree misdemeanors; and one count each of resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors; and public drunkenness, a summary charge, court records stated.
According to court records, at 4 p.m. Thursday, Port Allegany Police were called to the Lost Sock laundromat, where Tarbox was intoxicated and unable to stand on his own; at one point, he was trying to sleep on the floor. While police were trying to run information on him, he had to be told numerous times to keep his hands out of his pockets, as he kept reaching into his right front pocket.
“The male became very combative and out of control,” court records read. An officer asked Tarbox what he had in his pocket, and Tarbox allegedly told him it was marijuana.
Court records indicate that Tarbox was arrested and placed in the back seat of a police car, where he threatened to get a gun and shoot an officer. At the station, he allegedly became combative, kicking at the desk and printer; when an officer helped him to the ground, he started kicking at the officer and trying to get out of his handcuffs by thrashing around.
Tarbox told officers “he was going to get a gun and shoot us in the head,” court records read. An ambulance was called when Tarbox complained of chest pain, but no medical issues were found and he was transported for arraignment.
He was placed in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Central Court.
