KANE — An Olean, N.Y., man was arraigned Friday before District Judge David Engman on allegations he was found in Ohio driving a vehicle stolen from McKean County.
John F. Vail, 18, of 543 Prospect Ave., is charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, both third-degree felonies, court records stated.
According to court records, at 2:21 p.m. Dec. 1, 2016, Kane-based state police received a phone call about a stolen vehicle.
Ohio State Patrol had pulled over the vehicle — a 2015 Ford F-150 XLT from Zook Motors in Kane — and took into custody three suspects: Vail, who was the alleged driver, along with two juveniles. At that time, Vail was taken to the Noble County Jail in Caldwell, Ohio, and the juveniles were taken to the Sargus Juvenile Detention Center in Belmont County, Ohio, court records stated.
Court records indicated that Vail was initially charged in Ohio, but the Ohio charges were withdrawn so prosecution of criminal charges in Pennsylvania could move forward.
Vail was released on $2,500 unsecured bail, and a Central Court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
