OLEAN, N.Y. — Bradford High made a strong run with six straight wins from 126 to 160 pounds, but Olean took advantage of pins and forfeits to hand the Owls a 41-21 setback in their high school wrestling match on Thursday.
Picking up wins for the Owls (4-8) in the run were Colby Keane (126), Tyler Thompson (132), Kyle Hartman (138), Jaron Ambrose (145), Dylan Keane (152) and Derek Sunafrank (160).
Ambrose accounted for Bradford’s lone pin in the match.
“They (Olean) outnumbered us and they have a solid team, but we were hopeful we could pull it out because of the experience we have,” said Jamey Miller, Bradford coach.
“The middle of our lineup is stacked, but we can’t spread it out which leaves us with the forfeits. We won six of the 10 matches that were wrestled and I can’t be unhappy with that. Overall our kids wrestled well, but our kids on top in the heavier weights just don’t have the match experience,” he added.
Bradford returns to action Tuesday at Johnsonburg.
