NORTH EAST — Bradford High wrestler Tyler Thompson won the 132-pound title at the North East tournament over the weekend.
Thompson went 5-0 in the two-day event.
North East won the team title (154.5 points). Kane placed third (129) and Bradford ninth (70) in the 16-team field.
Colby Keane (126 pounds, 3-2) and Jaron Ambrose (145 pounds, 3-2) placed fourth for the Owls. Derek Sunafrank was fifth at 152 pounds, going 3-2.
“We knew we weren’t going to be world beaters with the holes we had in the lineup,” Bradford coach Jamey Miller said. “We had personal improvement. All our wrestlers are definitely improving.
“Everybody got wins of some sort this weekend. Hunter Gray, at 182 pounds, stepped up his game. We were pleased with how everything went with the kids.
“Jaron Ambrose had the best match I’ve ever seen him wrestle going into the consolation finals. He dominated his opponent.”
Kane’s Ben Westerburg won the 106-pound title. Noah Blankenship was third at 126, Aiden Hulings second at 152, Alec English second at 160, Teddy Race fifth at 170, Ty Stahli second at 195, Mike Good fifth at 220 and Tom McGuire sixth at heavyweight.
Bradford travels to Kane on Tuesday.
