SMETHPORT — The McKean County 4-H Teen Council on Tuesday held its first meeting under new club leadership.
After the pledges, members and volunteers introduced themselves to the group. Everyone then participated in a communication activity by using silence and body language, followed by a game to improve their memories.
The following officers were selected through a nomination process and positions selected for the 2017 program year: President, Alexandria Flynn; vice president, Makayla Gould; secretary, Kira Bonawitz; and treasurer, Jasmine Freer.
Project books were distributed. The group discussed community service ideas, which will be decided at the next meeting.
Members were told they will be completing interviews and participating in a public speaking contest in order to improve their life skills. The Teen Council will also compete in the McKean County 4-H Window Display from March 12-18, which is also Pennsylvania 4-H Week.
Members discussed short and long-term goals they want to achieve as a group. By the end of 2017 the Teen Council will successfully: 1) Tour Penn State University main campus, 2) organize a countywide 4-H Volleyball Tournament, and 3) organize the county Achievement Day Program. Within the next three years, the club would like to participate in its first interstate exchange trip.
