Despite the unusual number of weather-related flight cancellations in December at the Bradford Regional Airport, enplanements were still at sufficient levels to meet the average of ten daily enplanements, a requirement of the federal Essential Air Service that provides subsidies to airlines serving rural and small market airports.
In a report to the airport authority Wednesday, airport manager Alicia Dankesreiter said that 263 enplanements were recorded last month even though 26 of the scheduled 106 flights were canceled due to weather. Two flights were canceled because of maintenance.
“We continue to be one of the busiest airports in Southern Air Express’ system,” Dankesreiter said.
According to Dankesreiter, the airline plans to announce a new marketing plan prior to the spring travel season.
Last month, authority members approved an engineering agreement with GAI Consultants for the new door project at the Forest Oil hangar. Dankesreiter said Wednesday that it must be determined that this structure has no historical significance before it can be modified. The appropriate documents are to be submitted to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission this week.
In his report, facilities manager David Thomas said that a new sound and visual alarm has been installed at the multi-tent center. Additionally, employees in this department have adjusted or repaired some winter maintenance machinery at a cost savings.
