Construction to replace two McKean County bridges will begin later this month as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
PennDOT officials said replacement of the bridges will allow PennDOT to remove them from McKean County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
The bridges to be worked on include a Route 346 (Derrick Road) bridge, spanning Foster Brook in Foster Township, about three miles east of Bradford.
Construction is expected to start during the week of Jan. 23 and be complete by late June, according to PennDOT officials.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Route 6 (East Main Street) bridge spanning Marvin Creek in Hamlin Township near the village of Hazel Hurst will be done.
PennDOT officials said construction is expected to start during the week of Jan. 23 and be complete by late July.
During construction, traffic at each bridge will be controlled by temporary traffic signals that enforce an alternating lane pattern. In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, these schedules may change.
PennDOT officials said the bridges are referred to as JV-65 and JV-57, respectively. They are two out of 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners, under which Plenary Walsh will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The public-private approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
