APPRECIATION: Happy National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
According to the Fraternal Order of Police, Pennsylvania State Lodge, there are 900,000 police officers across the United States
“The bravery that our nation’s men and women show is remarkable given the dangers of their job,” said Les Neri, president of the order. “Law enforcement officers and their families are some of the most humble and courageous people around. For those reasons and countless more, they deserve to be nationally recognized.”
The order shared several ways residents can show their support for their local law enforcement officials, including the following:
• Change your profile picture on social media to support law enforcement.
• See a police officer? Thank a police officer.
• Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement.
• Send a card of support to your local police department or state agency.
• Share a positive story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media.
• Ask children in your community to write letters in support of law enforcement.
• Organize an event or a rally in support of your law enforcement officers.
The agency also suggested participating in Project Blue Light, which calls people to put a single blue light in a window to honor fallen officers.
SNEEZES: Jan. 6, 1894, was the release date for the film “Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze.”
The movie was filmed at Edison Laboratories in West Orange, N.J., according to the Internet Movie Database. Runtime for the silent black-and-white film is listed as one minute — but if you find a clip of it to watch, it’s actually much shorter.
The aptly-named footage is of Thomas Edison’s assistant, Fred Ott, sneezing. It’s also known as “Fred Ott’s Sneeze.”
It was the first film to be copyrighted in the U.S., IMDB says.
