A repair by the Bradford City Water Authority has prompted a two-hour delay for elementary school students, and will cause some customers to be without service this morning while repairs are made.
Authority Executive Director Steve Disney said, “crews are confident” the repairs will be done within the four-hour timeframe set aside, barring an unforeseen emergency. The project is to be completed between 7 and 11 a.m.
As they will have to shut some gate valves off during that time, residents on North Center Street between West Washington and Pleasant streets and on State Street between North Center and Bennett streets will be without service.
Disney said he talked to Bradford Area School District Superintendent Katharine Pude, and since School Street Elementary School will be without service, students at both School Street and George G. Blaisdell Elementary School will experience a two-hour delay. He explained that both schools are on the same bus schedule, and it was easier to hold the delay for both schools.
Other than the delay, “busing will remain the same,” said Disney.
He indicated the delay only impacts the elementary schools, and students will start classes at the normal time at Floyd C. Fretz Middle School and Bradford Area High School.
Disney explained the repair that is to be made, saying, “We have a gate valve at the intersection of North Center and State streets that has been giving us trouble the last couple of weeks.”
Disney said the valve has been leaking, and attempts to repair it from the surface have not worked; therefore, a crew will have to dig up the valve and replace it.
