COUDERSPORT – Haley Keck and Ally Easton led an offensive charge for Coudersport as the Lady Falcons routed Olean Walsh, 73-15, in the Coudersport Christmas Tournament on Thursday night.
Keck scored 17 points and Easton added 15 points, while Grace Greer scored 11 points for Walsh.
“We still have some shooting problems that we have to work out,” Coudersport head coach Chris FInk said. “Some of the girls, because the volleyball team did so well, are still trying to find their shooting rhythm. We seem to get better each game.”
Keck scored the first points of the night followed by two free throws by Walsh’s Kieghrae Hurd to tie the score at 2-2 with 7:42 left in the first quarter. The Lady Falcons scored the next three field goals to take an 8-2 lead. Greer connected on the first of her two 3s to put the score at 8-5.
From there on out, the Lady Falcons held Walsh scoreless while running off 16 unanswered points to build a 24-5 first quarter lead behind Keck’s 9 points and Easton’s 7.
The second quarter didn’t get much better for Walsh. Greer connected on her second 3-pointer to put the score at 30-8 with 5:42 left in the half. The Lady Falcons ran off 10 more unanswered points to take a 40-8 halftime lead.
“We couldn’t stop their offense and they out-rebounded us in the first half,” stated Walsh coach Jen Sweeten.
As for the second half The Lady Falcons hit the mercy rule early in the third quarter as they out scored Walsh 19-5 to jump to a 59-13 lead after three quarters.
Coudersport hit the PIAA’s Mercy Rule early in the third quarter, and Fink emptied the bench in the fourth quarter as the Lady Falcons held Walsh to just two points in the final period.
“This was just the second game I coached” Sweeten said. “We preach basics and tonight we did some things right and some things we have to work on. We are young and will try to build on the positives each week and try to get better as the season goes on.”
Walsh falls to 0-2 on the season and Coudersport improves to 6-0 on the season and will play Otto-Eldred Monday night at Coudersport in a North Tier League game.
“We have some tough games next week,” Fink said. “We play Otto-Eldred next and they have some talented athletes.”
