SMETHPORT — A Bradford man who ran a woman over with his vehicle in a bar parking lot will serve time in state prison.
Jonathon L. Yeager, 33, was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to a term of 10 months to two years in state prison with credit for eight days of time served, and he is to pay $19,000 to the victim for medical expenses.
Assistant District Attorney Ashley Shade said the victim was in agreement with the plea agreement.
President Judge John Pavlock had rejected an earlier agreement after the victim spoke in open court about her dissatisfaction with it. Before, Yeager was facing a county-served sentence, but he faced a state-served sentence in the newest plea agreement.
The victim indicated at that time that he hit her because she was trying to stop him from driving home after imbibing alcohol.
According to court records filed at the time he was first charged, Yeager left the scene without stopping, and police were not able to talk to him until he showed up at the Bradford City Police Station more than two hours after the incident. No alcohol-related charges were filed in the case.
Before receiving his sentence, Yeager apologized to the victim, her family and his own family for the incident. “I just want to get it over with,” he said.
Yeager pleaded guilty Dec. 8 to charges of aggravated assault by vehicle, accident involving death/injury when not properly licensed and summary charges of failing to stop and give information or render aid, reckless driving and driving when license is suspended or revoked.
