Host Gators advance in Port Allegany Tournament
PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. — The home team came out on top in the first round of the Port Allegany Tournament, as the Gators’ boys basketball team (3-4 overall, 1-1 NTL) defeated Austin (0-6, 0-3).
The Gators won, 60-43, Monday night in a Northern Tier League matchup.
Brandon McCaslin (21 points) and Howard Stuckey (19) both had big nights to lead the Gators to their first league victory of the season. Port Allegany netted a whopping 23 points in the first quarter to give themselves a comfortable early lead.
“We were able to control the boards tonight and that’s something we hadn’t been able to do recently,” Gators coach Jeff Stuckey said.
Mason Valenti (12) and Dempsey Glover (11) were the leading scorers for Austin.
Port Allegany will face Smethport at 7:30 on Tuesday in the championship game, while Austin will take on Galeton at 4:30 in the consolation game.

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. — Caleb Lutz scored 13 points to lead Smethport by Galeton in the opening night of the Port Allegany Holiday Tournament.
Lutz was the lone Hubber in double figures in the low-scoring contest. Smethport (1-3) trailed at the half, 19-14.
“We had a big second half,” Smethport head coach Jay Acker said. “We put a lot of pressure on them and came up with some turnovers. It got us sparked on the offensive end.”
Isaiah Shuemaker scored 10 to lead Galeton.

Galeton 55, Smethport 44
PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Cortney Parsell scored 27 points and Galeton used a big second half to take down Smethport in the opening round of the girls Port Allegany Holiday tournament on Monday.
Parsell made eight baskets, including three 3-pointers, and was a 8-for-11 from the charity stripe.
Abbey Woodard and Emily Treat scored in double figures for the Lady Hubbers, adding 14 and 13 tallies respectively. However, Smethport (2-3) could only manage 13 second-half points.
Galeton (4-1) is set to take on host Port Allegany for the tournament championship today at 6 p.m. Smethport and Austin play for third place at 3 p.m.

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. — Nine players scored for Port Allegany as the Lady Gators jumped out to a big first-quarter lead in the opening round of the Lady Gators’ holiday tournament.
Autumn Buchsenschutz (13) and Cailey Barnett (12) led the offensive outpouring for the Lady Gators (4-3 overall, 1-1 NTL), as the team jumped out to a 23-2 lead after the first eight minutes of play, which also counted as a North Tier League matchup.
Buchsenschutz and Erin Stauffer added seven steals apiece, while Brianna Roys added four points and nine rebounds.
