WILCOX –– Fire destroyed a wooden garage/barn near a home at 7350 Glen Hazel Road in Wilcox on Tuesday afternoon.
At 2:22 p.m., the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze that totaled a Ford Escape, snowmobiles, motorcycle and farming equipment, according to Fire Chief Fred Maletto.
Firefighters were on scene until 6 or 6:30 p.m. The fire is still under investigation, and the fire marshal is expected to be on scene today. Maletto estimates that damage is between $80,000 to $150,000.
The point of origin is not known at this point, but an outdoor wood burner is in the vicinity, Maletto said. But the fire is not considered suspicious in origin, he said.
No one was injured. The owner is listed as Eric Elmquist, Maletto said.
Also responding were fire departments from Johnsonburg, Ridgway and St. Marys. The Kane department was on standby for Wilcox.
