RIDGWAY — During their second monthly meeting in December, the Elk County Commissioners approved several issues on Tuesday.
Starting with the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, the commissioners accepted a bid from Advanced Disposal to care for the various recycling drop-off containers located throughout the county.
In total, the bid was for $11,465 and was the lowest of three bids received by the county.
Elk County Recycling and Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner said the solid waste authority’s board reviewed the bids and recommended Advanced Disposal’s bid because it was the low bid.
She added that Advanced Disposal will charge $117 each time that it brings a roll-off container to the recycling center in St. Marys, and it will charge $20 each time that a glass container is emptied from a site.
The recycling center in St. Marys does not accept glass, so Advanced Disposal will have to sell the glass themselves.
Currently, there are glass containers in Kersey and Wilcox, but the Ridgway Township Supervisors are expected to discuss the addition of new containers at the township’s Montmorenci Road facilities.
After approving the bid, the commissioners approved an agreement between the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, Elk County Conservation District and the county for services of a solid waste enforcement officer.
Elk County Commissioner Janis Kemmer said the agreement was to better define the position and how the position is funded.
The position already exists and is filled by Dave Stubber.
In other matters, the commissioners approved professional service agreements for the HOME Investment Partnership Program and the Elk County Housing Rehabilitation Program.
These agreements will help the county to do housing rehabilitation.
DK Environmental was approved for lead based paint and asbestos services, while Gelsick Home Inspection LLC. was approved for radon inspection services and mold assessments.
