A Bradford man has been jailed on allegations he tried to force his way into a home.
Nicholas Anthony McNeil, 21, of 29 Welch Ave., was arraigned Sunday before Magisterial District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of criminal trespassing, a second-degree felony; two counts of simple assault, both second-degree misdemeanors; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; and summary charges of harassment and public drunkenness, court records stated.
Court records said that on Sunday, McNeil began knocking on a residence at 42 North Kendall Ave. Katherine Mazza opened the door to see who was there, and McNeil shoved Mazza, trying to force his way inside. She and Tori Vancise shoved him back outside and quickly closed the door and locked it.
The pair could hear McNeil yelling, so they hid in the bathroom and called 911. Meanwhile, McNeil kicked the door; the females “heard the door burst open and the wood pieces from the door hit the floor,” court records read. They believe he heard them on the phone with the 911 center and fled.
After arriving at the North Kendall Avenue home and learning McNeil had left the scene, police went to his residence at Welch Avenue and knocked on the door. After a minute or two, McNeil came to the front door with his hands up “as if to say I didn’t do anything wrong,” court records stated.
Police told McNeil — who “smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage” — that he was accused of breaking into a house, and he was placed under arrest, court records stated. McNeil allegedly told police he could not have committed the crime because he had been home all night, then he told them a different story, saying he went to The New Keystone bar and came home.
He was committed to McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
