A Duke Center woman is facing allegations she stole more than $200 worth of merchandise from Walmart in Foster Brook.
Amanda Jane Whiteman, 24, of 20 Fitzsimmons St., was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Richard Luther on charges of retail theft, a first-degree misdemeanor, court records stated.
Court records said Foster Township Police were called at 5:13 p.m. Nov. 14 to Walmart, where Whiteman walked past the last point of sale with a shopping cart containing to $203.86 worth of merchandise. She had nearly exited the last set of doors leading to the parking lot before she was stopped by an employee.
Whiteman had her two young children with her at the time, and she claimed that she forgot to pay for her items because she was distracted by speaking to another customer she knew while picking up a prescription; she said she was distracted by her children, too, court records indicated.
Whiteman was released on unsecured bail of $2,500, and she is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Dec. 22.
