WISH LIST: An agency that makes a huge difference in the life of an abused child has a Christmas wish list this year, and we want to share it with you.
The Children’s Advocacy Center of McKean County, located at 424 West Main St. in Smethport, serves child victims of abuse and their families by providing collaborative services in a child-friendly atmosphere to reduce trauma and promote healing.
The center was started several years ago by two women — Mikele Bay and Mindi Brown — who had worked with Children and Youth Services, and saw a need for a one-stop shop to make a terrifying experience a little easier on young victims.
The Center is making a difference — and now, readers, you can help them help children.
While any donation is appreciated, here’s what the Center is asking for:
In the waiting room, children’s and teens’ books, magazine subscriptions (Family Fun, Highlights, Girls’ Life, Boys’ Life, Discover, etc.); children and family DVDs, children’s (0-13) toys; V-Tech tablet and games; child friendly framed wall pictures or posters; and Walmart gift cards to purchase snack items for children while onsite.
In the advocate room: journals, notebooks for adolescents; stuffed animals; Beanie Babies; stress balls; scented markers; child friendly framed wall pictures or posters; and for the interview room, Crayola markers and crayons; and “Tangles” brain tools.
Gas cards in $10 increments to aid in transportation for families to go to the center and counseling appointments are appreciated as well.
“If you are able to help us fulfill anything listed, please contact CACMC staff (814) 887-3354 or stop by to see us: 424 West Main Street, Smethport, PA. Thank you for your continuous support,” the Center’s Facebook page reads.
Donations can also be dropped off at The Bradford Era office.
