SMETHPORT — One of two men accused of robbing the Bradford Coin Shop pleaded guilty Thursday in McKean County Court.
Michael J. Kelly, 31, of Bradford, entered the plea to charges of robbery, simple assault and theft by unlawful taking. On Oct. 8, Kelly committed robbery and took $250 worth of items from the victim, including gold and silver jewelry and silver certificates, and he was an accomplice to assaulting the victim, according to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.
Kelly will be sentenced on Dec. 29.
A last day to plea conference was also scheduled Thursday for the second suspect, Ozzy M. Strait, 18, of Bradford, but the court date has been continued until Jan. 5, 2017.
Kelly and Strait each remain incarcerated in McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $115,000 bail.
Before the two suspects were arrested, Bradford City Police went to the community with surveillance footage of the men seeking their identities.
Police reported at that time that at 2:21 p.m. Oct. 8, the two men entered the Bradford Coin Shop on Chestnut Street, assaulted the owner, broke display cases, took merchandise and fled.
