Get ready!
It is going to start looking a lot like Christmas tonight –– and in the coming days.
A lake effect snow advisory is in effect from noon today until noon Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Bureau in State College.
On Wednesday evening, the McKean County Department of Emergency Services shared a notice from the weather service, which states that two-day snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches in northwestern portions of the county and 4 to 6 inches in the southeast are in the forecast.
Weather forecaster David Martin reported that a fairly strong cold front is expected today and tonight. Snow showers are likely, mainly after noon today with a high near 31 degrees, the weather service reports. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Meanwhile, tonight, snow showers are expected before and after 1 a.m., with a low around 23 degrees. Martin said the weather service is forecasting that new snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible.
The weather service is projecting snow for Friday with a high near 27 degrees, and on Friday night, snow is expected with a low around 18 degrees.
Snow is expected to taper off on Saturday, he said. The day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 26 degrees. A chance of snow is in the forecast for Saturday night with a low around 16 degrees.
For Sunday, the weather service is predicting snow along with a high near 32 degrees. The temperatures for Sunday will warm up, Martin said. For Sunday night, snow is likely with a low around 27 degrees, the weather service predicts.
Last December the weather had been mild in Bradford, but this time, Martin said he considers this to be more of a typical winter for the city and the surrounding area.
Martin said people should be prepared for the impending snow. He suggested that people should make sure that vehicles are fueled, that people have winter clothing and that they have snow shovels on hand. He also recommended that people check out the forecast when traveling long distances.
