ST. MARYS — St. Marys City Police have charged a Kersey man in connection with an Oct. 30 crash on the Million Dollar Highway in St. Marys after he was allegedly found to have been driving more than 100 mph on the roadway while under the influence of alcohol.
Shane Thomas Krise, 25, has been charged with a felony charge of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence; four misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence; and a summary offense of reckless driving.
An affidavit of probable cause outlining the case was obtained from the office of Magisterial District Judge Mark S. Jacob.
The affidavit indicates that Krise was traveling southbound on the Million Dollar Highway while operating a 2015 Chrysler 300 at speeds of more than 100 mph. While driving on the roadway, Krise came up to a second vehicle, which was also traveling south. Krise then attempted to merge into the left lane to avoid the second vehicle but did so too late and made contact with it.
The second vehicle, a Suburban, had six occupants who sustained minor injuries, court documents said.
The affidavit said Krise escaped injury in the accident, but a passenger in his vehicle had to be transported to Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys and later flown by medical helicopter to another medical facility.
The passenger sustained a broken hip, broken foot, broken tailbone, sprained ankle, a dislocated foot, a concussion and a head wound requiring 13 staples, court documents said.
Several witnesses, including an off-duty trooper, witnessed the crash. Krise was interviewed on scene and administered field sobriety tests before being transported to Penn Highlands Elk for a blood draw, according to court documents. The affidavit indicated the results came back and showed that Krise had a BAC of .242 percent.
As a result of the investigation, Krise has been charged. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Jacob on Jan. 24, 2017. Online court documents do not list an attorney for Krise.
The Commonwealth will be represented by the Elk County District Attorney’s Office.
