HARRISBURG — A $1 million state grant has been awarded for Straub Brewery in St. Marys in Elk County, according to Sen. Joe Scarnati, R-Brockway.
Scarnati explained that the $1 million grant is being awarded by The State Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). The grant will be matched with a $1 million project investment by Straub.
Straub currently has 24 full-time and five part-time employees. Across Pennsylvania, Straub also has 43 brand ambassadors.
Scarnati, who was instrumental in securing this funding, explained that the project will consist of production upgrades including the potential for a new can-line and related capacity expansion. The second phase of the project will include enhancing the Straub facility as a destination point for visitors, by making upgrades to the Eternal Tap™ area and improvements to other areas of the facility that will enhance Straub’s ability to attract and increase visitation as it relates to the PA Wilds.
“I am confident that this state grant will be a great investment and will help enhance the facility to draw more visitors to our region,” Scarnati stated. “Straub Brewery has a long history within our community, having been a fixture in the area since the late 1800s.”
Bill Brock, President & CEO of Straub Brewery, has developed this project and emphasized the positive impact that this grant will have.
“Straub is very excited by today’s announcement and extremely appreciative of both Governor Wolf’s and Senator Scarnati’s support,” Brock said. “This project will help Straub to continue our modernization efforts that have been underway for the last five years. This project will also support Straub’s ongoing commitment to expanding visitor accommodation and enhancing our site as a main visitor destination point within the PA Wilds.”
Scarnati noted that RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.
