It’ll be a gloomy, dreary Thanksgiving –– but the kitchen will be warmer and of course, around the dinner table even more so, according to Paul Head, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in State College.
Snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain, is expected before 9 a.m. today, then rain likely after that, according to the weather service.
In fact, the Elk County Office of Emergency Services released a statement on Wednesday regarding the weather: “Traveling early tomorrow (Thursday) to arrive at your Thanksgiving destination? Elk County along with other counties in Northcentral Pennsylvania are under a Winter Weather Advisory effective beginning 1 a.m. Thursday through 9 a.m. Thursday. The hazard being Freezing Rain & Sleet. Roadways will be slippery and untreated roads will be icy. Allow extra time while traveling.”
For his part, Head told The Era on Wednesday that sidewalks and trees could be coated with ice. But on its website, the weather service reported little to no ice accumulation is expected in the forecast. The high for Thursday will be near 41 degrees.
For Thursday night, scattered showers are expected on the cloudy day that is forecast to be a low of around 36 degrees. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch is possible, the weather service is reporting.
Meanwhile, Black Friday is expected to see scattered showers. The day will also be cloudy with a high near 43 degrees. Friday night, there will be rain showers likely before 1 a.m., then snow showers are in the forecast. The night will also be cloudy with a low around 31 degrees.
