IT’S FALL: W. Lee Peterson shared this poem she wrote on Nov. 14 — before the snow started the fly.
“It’s Fall”
The leaves have fallen, the trees are bare
The days are shorter, signs of Fall are everywhere
So enjoy these nice days before the snow starts to fall
And it’s then your warm, comfy home feels best of all
But Winter won’t last and Spring comes again
So, it’s One Day At A Time and we’ll just have to wait ‘til then!
TURKEYS:Here’s a somewhat odd — but well-meaning — gift for the Thanksgiving season.
Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners, a group of companies working with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on its Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, is donating 158 turkeys to communities to be distributed to those in need. This includes eight turkeys that will be given to the food pantry at the YWCA Bradford.
By the way, 158 was not a random number — it represents the number of bridges completed so far in the project, according to Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners.
SAFE DRIVING:With all the motor vehicle accidents that happened over the weekend on the snowy roads, we thought it would be worth our while to pass along a few winter driving tips from the New York State Police.
Before you even pull onto the road, police ask drivers to clean all the snow and ice off windows, mirrors, headlights and brake lights. Keep a blanket — and at least half a tank of gas — in the vehicle all winter. Also, buckle up.
Give yourself extra time to drive carefully on snowy roads.
Once you’re on the road, “Do not drive distracted.”This was in all caps in the release, so we know they mean business.
Drive at least two car-lengths behind the vehicle in front of you, and slow down sooner on snow-covered roads than dry roads.
