ST. MARYS — The Leadership Elk and Cameron class attended the third monthly leadership day in the 10-month program series at the Community Education Center in St. Marys.
The latest session was titled “Communications Day.”
Officials said the day opened with the theme presentation, Effective Communication and Public Speaking Skills for Leadership by Dale Fox, Elk County Toastmaster and communications consultant. The morning session continued as members presented their own prepared ice-breaker speeches to the audience.
Following a lunch sponsored by Dough Boys, the group traveled to the River 98.9 for a program highlight, a radio station tour with Jeff Bucheit, River 98.9 employee. Bucheit hosted the session and facilitated a group recording effort to promote Leadership Elk and Cameron membership.
The afternoon portion of the session included presentations from three non-profit organizations who were selected to team up with Leadership Elk and Cameron participant groups to complete a project over the course of the 10-month program.
Officials said the project recipients for this year include the City of St. Marys, Big Maple Farm’s Natural Therapies, and the St. Marys Youth Center.
A highly rated and enjoyable part of the day provided random impromptu speech opportunities for participants to practice their public speaking skills with a topic that was generated on the spot by the participants themselves.
