OLEAN, N.Y. — The Olean Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will be participating in a wreath-laying ceremony on National Wreaths Across America Day Dec. 17 with a ceremony at Bath National Cemetery.
In 2015 volunteers at Bath laid over 700 wreaths — the goal this year is to lay 1,000 or more wreaths.
This year’s ceremony will feature the Corning American Legion Honor Guard, the Patriot Guard, and a local high school student who will bugle the familiar military “Taps.” In conjunction with the ceremony, participants are asked to lay wreaths on the graves of our veterans. Volunteers who place a wreath on a veteran’s grave are encouraged to say that veteran’s name aloud and take a moment to thank them for their service to our country. It’s a small act that goes a long way toward keeping the memory of our veterans alive. Children are invited to participate as well — it is just one of the many ways we can teach children the value of freedom.
Zippo Manufacturing Co., based in Bradford, Pa., is a corporate sponsor of the Olean Chapter of NSDAR, contributing significantly to help reach its goal. Zippo recently donated military-decorated lighters to the Olean Chapter NSDAR for inclusion in care packages to our deployed military personnel.
Other local business supporters in Bradford and the surrounding area include: Cubic Storage Co., which specializes in materials handling and forklift sales, leasing and repair; Rinker Oil Corp., a full service energy team providing fuels and heating and cooling sales and services, and Shaner Corp., an award-winning hospitality owner-operator and management company.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the cause or participate in the wreath-laying ceremony may visit the Olean Chapter’s page at https://wreaths.fastport.com/donateLocation.html?page=25106&relate=16639 and click to donate before Nov. 28.
A single wreath is only $15 and is tax deductible. There is also the “family” level (4 wreaths), the “small business” level (10 wreaths) and the “corporate” level (100 wreaths).
