RIDGWAY –– A Johnsonburg man died in a one-vehicle accident Friday evening on U.S. Route 219 near North Broad Street in Ridgway Township.
Ridgway-based state police said that at 5:16 p.m., a sport-utility vehicle driven by John W. Blessing, 72, of Johnsonburg, was traveling north in the northbound lane of U.S. Route 219, about 853 feet north of North Broad Street, when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and hit a ditch. The SUV became airborne and rolled over multiple times, causing Blessing to be thrown from the vehicle, according to police.
Blessing was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
Police attributed the accident to speeding.
