Bradford will be getting a bit of winter weather this weekend, when a chance of snow showers is in the forecast starting Saturday night.
While groans about the upcoming snowfall may be heard around town, this weekend’s weather is probably closer to what is normal to this time of year than what the area has been seeing, according to John LaCorte, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Bureau in State College. “We’ve been spoiled.”
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday’s high is expected to be in the mid-50s, with temperatures dropping that night to about 32 degrees.
LaCorte said Sunday will be in the mid-30s and Monday will be in the lower 30s; by Tuesday, it should be back near 40 degrees.
“It’s colder, but it’s been so warm. Colder is relative,” he said.
This will likely be the first real snowfall this autumn for most of the area, though there were some snowflakes in October, according to LaCorte.
He said it’s too early for the National Weather Service to determine how much snow accumulation the area will see over the weekend. He noted, “If any is going to be significant” — it will be lake effect snow caused by the colder temperatures. “With colder air coming in on Saturday night,” we should look be on the lookout for “snow showers probably anytime late Saturday night.”
And while it’s too early to determine the amount of accumulation that might come Bradford’s way, residents should be prepared to deal with some accumulation. “It looks like a good pattern for it,” LaCorte said.
The Thanksgiving Day forecast was not available through the National Weather Service, as the agency provides short term forecasts that look about one week into the future.
Holiday travelers will want to pay special attention on Wednesday to the environment before making their way to their Thanksgiving destinations. LaCorte said that Wednesday will bring a chance of rain or snow showers and a high in the lower 40s.
