A Bradford man who led police on a search through the woods waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Nicholas A. Zentz, 21, is charged with one count of flight to avoid apprehension, a third-degree felony, court records stated.
According to court records, on the afternoon of Oct. 29, Bradford City Police were searching for Zentz on a felony warrant issued by New York State Corrections and Community Supervision, as well as for questioning in alleged motor vehicle theft incidents in both Bradford and North Carolina.
Police received a tip to search East Main Street, where they spotted him walking with his girlfriend. Zentz broke away from an officer who tried to arrest him and ran into a wooded area up the hill from East Main Street, court records stated.
Officers from multiple departments set up a perimeter and brought in bloodhound tracking dogs to aid in the search. Officers searched for several miles, but stopped when it got dark to keep police safe.
After a receiving a tip that night that Zentz was spotted on Hilton Street, Bradford City Police pursued him on foot, cornering him in a fenced in area along Hilton Street and arresting him, according to court records.
Court records indicate Zentz is still being held in McKean County Jail. Bail is set at $25,000 in the flight to avoid apprehension case, but an online docket that was filed when he was arraigned for the warrant — not the subsequent McKean County charge — had indicated he was being held without bail to answer to the out-of-state warrant.
